LA MIRADA/RIVERSIDE – The California Baptist University men’s and women’s swim and dive teams divided and conquered on Saturday afternoon, as swim handled the Eagles of Biola University, and the Lancer divers showed very well against top-tier talent on the platforms at the RCC Collegiate Diving Invite.

SWIMMING

The Lancers made easy work of their former GSAC and PacWest foes, Division II power Biola University, outscoring the Eagles 259-39. In total, CBU won 35 of the 36 contested events.

Andrija Petkovic and Liam Flaherty highlighted the dual by claiming their own pieces of Biola history by breaking a handful of Lansing Pool records. Petkovic topped a pair of event bests, setting the new 100 free time to beat in 44.73 seconds and the 200 free time to beat of 1:41.14. Flaherty is the proud new owner of the Lansing 100 individual medley best time of 53.27 seconds.

DIVING

The Lancer divers didn’t have to travel quite as far as the swimmers on Saturday as their event happened down the road at Riverside Community College. The RCC Collegiate Divind Invite did contest all three levels of diving, but the Lancers were focused solely on the platform event.

They achieved their primary goal as four more divers managed to make the cut for NCAA Zone E competition in March. John AngelovicAudrey Easter, and Gael Jimenez all hit their goal in the preliminary rounds of their event, while Bella Reynolds joined the group after the finals round. In total, all eight divers have now qualified for Zones in the 1-and3 meter springboard events, and seven of the eight have platform marks as well.

CBU swim and dive will close out the 2024 calendar year with one final meet, but it’s a big one. The Lancers will head east to Las Vegas for the UNLV Invite, December 16-18, at Jim Reitz Pool in the Buchanan Natatorium.
