Newly-hired head coach Ben Loorz has announced another addition to his staff at the University of Arizona for the upcoming season as Lauren Sullivan will join the team as an assistant coach.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Sullivan to Tucson,” Loorz said. “Her passion for Arizona Swimming and Diving really came through in the hiring process. She is a highly organized coach who will play a major role on the deck and on the recruiting trail.”
Sullivan most recently served as the assistant coach at George Washington University this past season helping both the men’s and women’s teams to Atlantic-10 conference titles. In addition, the women sent 2 swimmers to NCAAs while the men sent 1. Sullivan also attended the 2024 European Aquatics Championships helping coach two athletes.
The GWU staff will look much different this fall as former head coach Brian Thomas left the program this offseason. Chico Rego has already been announced as the next head coach but Rego now will be in search of an assistant.
Sullivan began her coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Northeastern women over two seasons, from 2021-2023. The team featured three CAA Champions during that span. She earned her Masters of Science in Speech Language Pathology from Northeastern.
Bowling Green served as home for Sullivan during her collegiate student-athlete career. Specializing in backstroke and freestyle, Sullivan was a 14x MAC finalist. She graduated with a 4.0 GPA and a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She earned the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award.
Sullivan arrives to a new-look Arizona staff as Ben Loorz was hired as the team’s next head coach after Augie Busch was fired in May. Loorz most recently was the head coach of UNLV. Loorz has also added Peter Richardson to the staff as an associate head coach.
