Simple Shoulder Exercises To Prevent Injury (Video)

  0 Retta Race | November 18th, 2015

The sport we love doesn’t come without its difficulties, as anyone suffering from “swimmer’s shoulder” can attest. Pain in a swimmer’s shoulder can stem from overuse, incorrect technique and overall repetitive activity, rendering the athlete in a painful situation and time away from training.

To help prevent painful function, there are a series of simple activities highlighted in USA Swimming’s video to help increase stability, mobility and strength of several of the muscles involved in the shoulder area. The only equipment needed for the demonstrated exercises include a PVC pipe or broomstick, a pull-up bar and bungee cords.

Watch carefully as the model slowly demonstrates an exercise in each of the major shoulder movements – Elevation, Protraction, Depression and Retraction – and incorporate the moves into your workout routine to keep your shoulders healthy and in action.
