Mission Viejo Nadadore and Cornell commit Min Zhi Chua went 2:06.47 to win the boys 200 IM, highlighting the final day of the Santa Clara Futures meet.
That was a massive drop of more than three seconds for the 17-year-old Min, who will start at Cornell in just a few weeks.
In the midday distance races, Alexander Nikolaev and Noelle Fimbres took titles. Nikolaev won the boys 800 in 8:19.80 for Tucson Ford. He’s also a 17-year-old. The girls event went to 17-year-old Fimbres, who was 17:19:18 in the 1500 free for La Mirada Armada.
15-year-old Anicka Delgado was 57.19 to win the 100 free, putting up the second-best time of her career after a 57.02 in prelims. For the boys, Palo Alto’s Cyrus Morrison went a lifetime-best 51.67 to earn the win.
It was also a hit parade of best times in the 200 backstrokes. Jessica Pentlarge won the girls 200 back in 2:18.02, destroying her old best time of 2:19.75 prior to this week. Pentlarge swims for North Coast Aquatics. Then Bakersfield’s Robert Moseley went 2:06.75 to shave another half-second off his best in winning the boys race.
Davis Aquadart Tina Reuter ended off the night with a lifetime-best 2:21.23 to win the girls 200 IM, before Min’s big IM on the boys side.
