Michigan D1 Girls State: Seaman Sweeps Sprint Frees with 22.8/49.6

2016 MICHIGAN DIV. 1 GIRLS STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

FINAL TOP 5 TEAM SCORES:

  1. Rockford- 249
  2. Farmington Hills Mercy High School- 239
  3. Saline High School- 231.5
  4. Ann Arbor Skyline- 221
  5. Northville High School- 201

The 2016 Michigan Divsion 1 High School State Championships are in the books, and the Rockford girls are your 2016 state champions after scoring 249 points. Finishing just 10 points shy of them, the Farmington Hills Mercy High School girls earned 239 points to take the runner-up honors. Rounding out the top 3 was Saline High School with 231.5 points.

Brighton High School’s Taylor Seaman was a force to be reckoned with in the sprint freestyles. In her first individual race, the 50 free, she broke the 23 barrier to win gold with a speedy 22.86. She returned to the pool for the 100 free, blasting a 49.67 to complete her sweep of the sprint freestyles and earn her 2nd individual state title of the night.

Also winning multiple individual races was Ann Arbor Skyline’s Emma Cleason. She first won the 200 IM title, leading the race from start to finish on the way to a 2:00.86 victory. She then popped a 54.28 in the 100 fly to win another gold, finishing nearly a full second ahead of the field.

Rockford’s Sydney McDowell picked up an individual gold to help her school win the team title. McDowell won the 100 breast, clocking a quick 1:01.94 to outswim Northville’s Erin Szara, who touched in 1:02.40 for silver. Rounding out the medals in that race was Hudsonville’s Claire Tuttle in 1:02.77.

  • 100 back- Katie Minnich, Farmington Hills, 54.41
  • 200 medley relay- Northville High School (Tuinman, Szara, Macaddino, Westphal), 1:43.10
  • 200 free relay- Rockford (Ignasiak, McDowell, Snyman, Rayburn), 1:34.37
  • 400 free relay- Saline High School (Luther, Jorgenson, Murphy, Spears), 3:24.44
