The Lords and Ladies of Kenyon – those who didn’t participate in the Northwestern TYR Invitational – traveled to Cleveland, Ohio for a quad meet hosted by Case Western Reserve University. The meet included head-to-head competition between Kenyon’s Lords and Ladies, Case Western, Gannon University and Grove City. Kenyon won all, on both sides.
The Ladies topped the standings, taking twelve wins of the sixteen events. They were led by senior Rachel Flinn who collected two victories and a runner up finish during the meet. She began by leading off the 200 medley relay, followed by a trio of freshmen: Laura Duncan, Erika Jensen and Jenner McLeod. The quartet touched in 1:47.83 for the win. Individually, Flinn controlled her 200 backstroke from start to finish to coast to victory in a 2:08.15. Teammate Celia Oberholzer just out touched her in the 100 backstroke, 58.29-58.52.
Duncan, McLeod and Maria Zarka joined in on the wins. Duncan topped the competition in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.91, then took a runner up finish in the 100 butterfly (1:00.08). McLeod added her speed to lead off the 200 freestyle relay in 24.30 after winning the 50 freestyle in 24.45. Zarka swept the diving events, taking three meter with 282.89 and one meter in 261.05.
Ellie Crawford claimed first place victories in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.81) and the 400 IM (4:42.45). She was joined in the winner’s circle by Dru Seldon and Emma Stewart-Bates. Seldon captured victory in the 500 freestyle, touching in at 5:16.38 where Stewart-Bates finished first in the 1000 with a 10:42.51.
The Ladies outscored Grove City 202-96, beat Case Western 200-99 and defeated Gannon 198-89.
On the Lord’s side of things…
Kenyon ran away with eleven event victories. Senior Alex Beckwith assisted in three of those wins. He began his trifecta of wins as the second leg on the victorious 200 medley relay, along with Kevin Magee, Austin Caldwell and Austin Pu. They clocked at 1:35.20. Beckwith went on to win the 100 breaststroke (59.36). Not satisfied with that, Beckwith added his third event win, taking the 200 breaststroke by storm, touching in 2:08.91 to win by over three seconds.
Along with Beckwith, many other Lords lent their speed to help the team to victory. Arthur Conover and Joe Guilfoyle went one-two in the 1000 freestyle. Conover was 9:44.42; Guilfoyle finished in 9:47.56. Another one-two combo was Oscar Anderson and Magee taking the top spots in the 100 backstroke, in 53.07 and 53.53, respectively. Magee also recorded a victory in the 100 butterfly (52.27).
Caldwell, Percy Gates and Andrew Chevalier all took an individual victory as well. Caldwell took the 50, touching at 21.48. Chevalier claimed the 200 backstroke (1:55.21) and Gates took the 100 free (46.66) for yet another one-two finish with teammate Pu (47.02). The last of the individual victories went to Ian Reardon who took first in the 400 IM, clocking in at 4:08.07.
In the final 200 freestyle relay, Gates, Caldwell, Pu and Magee teamed up to take first with a 1:25.19.
On the boards, Derek Hoare and Brandon Roman took second and third, respectively in both one and three meter.
The Lords won all three dual match ups. They crushed Grove City 244-54, topped Gannon 219-74 and battled it out with Case Western to win 195-102.
