With Brittany Usinger’s verbal commitment* the Crimson are beginning to address some of their weaker spots from the 2014 Ivy League Championships.
Usinger swims for Walnut Creek Aquabears and Acalanes High School in Lafayette, California. At the 2014 CIF-North Coast Section Championships she placed second in the 200 free (1:48.39) and won the 100 fly (53.46). She also swam fly on Acalanes’ medley relay and led off the 400 free relay (51.37).
Usinger was a B-finalist in the 100 and a C-finalist in the 200 fly at last summer’s Speedo Junior Nationals. She qualified for 2016 Olympic Trials with a 2:13.95 in the 200 fly and 1:01.19 in the 100 fly. Her top times include:
100y fly: 53:46 | 100m fly 1:01.19 |
200y fly: 1:57.84 | 200m fly: 2:13.95 |
100y free: 50.98 | 100m free: 58.46 |
200y free: 1:48.39 | 200m free: 2:05.41 |
200y IM: 2:04.97 | 200m IM: 2:20.46 |
Usinger, together with sprinter Holly Christensen, breaststroker Megan Popp, and fly/IMer Sonia Wang, should make the Crimson a strong contender for the Ivy Championship in the years to come.

*DISCLAIMER: Usinger has not yet been officially accepted to Harvard. As is true with all Ivy League schools, Harvard’s Admission Office will not send its acceptance letter until the beginning of December, along with those of all Early Action candidates. The procedure for a recruited athlete like Usinger is for Admissions to review her transcript and SAT scores, “support (her) application for admission in the fall,” issue a Likely Letter, then offer her acceptance into the class of 2019.
