Lauren McNamara of Flat Rock, Michigan, has announced her verbal commitment to continue her education and swimming career at Marshall University. McNamara is currently a senior at Flat Rock High School, and will arrive on campus for the 2024-2025 season.
McNamara trains and competes year-round with the Saline Swim Team. Her primary event focus is on butterfly, and she currently owns Futures cuts in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 IM. This summer, she wrapped up her long course season at the NCSA Summer Championship, where she earned as high as 12th in the 200m butterfly with a best time of 2:19.06.
McNamara also broke into the top-24 in the 100m fly at NCSAs. She stopped the clock at 1:03.28 to take 22nd, good for a new personal best time by about half a second. Rounding out her best time performances was the 100m backstroke, as she dropped nearly two seconds for a 1:09.14.
McNamara represented her high school at the Michigan High School State Championships (Division 3) last fall. She successfully defended her title in the 100 fly with a personal best time of 55.25, as well as took 2nd in the 200 IM in 2:07.21, also marking a new personal best.

Marshall University, located in Huntington, West Virginia, is a Division I mid-major school that now is part of the Sun Belt Conference. This past year, the team competed in the Missouri Valley Conference, where they finished 6th out of 10 teams with a total of 791 points.
With her current best times, McNamara would have been the fastest 200 flyer and 2nd-fastest 100 flyer on the team this past year. Leading the way in the 100 was current senior Madeline Hart, who posted a season-best time of 55.13 at the Purdue Invitational. The fastest performer in the 200 with a time of 2:02.37 was Eszter Laban, who is also a current senior.
McNamara is the first public commitment for the Herd’s class of 2028 next fall.
