Casey Kirby, a senior at Adlai E Stevenson School in Lincolnshire, Illinois, has made a commitment to swim at Division III powerhouse Denison University next fall.
“I couldn’t be more excited! I went to dozens of schools looking for the perfect fit – it wasn’t until I went on an official visit at Denison that I knew that was where I belonged. The supportive environment both academically and athletically, was unmatched. The team was very welcoming and I felt comfortable right away. I was injured this past Spring/Summer and the coaches at Denison always believed I would rehab and come back stronger. The loyalty they showed to me is something I’m going to give back to them for the next four years.
I swam at Winter Junior Nationals West and achieved some times that will hopefully contribute right away – these are my best times year to date:”
- 50 free – 24.02
- 100 free – 52.41
- 200 free – 1:54.62
- 50 back – 26.56
- 100 back – 56.08
- 200 back – 2:04.70
Kirby finished 30th in the 100 free and ninth in the 100 back at the 2015 IHSA State Swimming & Diving Championship last November. She also anchored Stevenson’s 200 medley and 400 free relays. Her best times would have landed her second in the 100 back and third in the 200 back at the 2015 NCAC Swimming & Diving Championships.
Joining Kirby in the Denison class of 2020 will be Haley Gullquist.
