Canadian Breaststroker Isabel Harri Commits to Eastern Michigan for 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Isabel Harri has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Division I Eastern Michigan University beginning during the 2022-2023 school year.

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to Eastern Michigan University! The competitive swim environment, coaches, team members and the academics make EMU a perfect fit for me. Thank you to all my friends, family and coaches who have helped me through this process. Go Eagles!”

Harri swims for the Thunder Bay Thunderbolts out of Thunder Bay, Ontario. She first competed in the Canadian Trials at age 14 in April 2019. That meet served as the nomination and selection meet for the 2019 FINA World Championships, 2019 FINA World Junior Championships, 2019 Pan American Games, 2019 Para Pan American Games, 2019 World Para Swimming Championships, and the 2019 FISU Games. In April 2019, she set a lifetime best in the 200 IM long course with a time of 2:25.81. During the summer of 2019, she set long course best times in both the 100 (1:14.05) and 200 (2:38.36) breaststrokes.

She is ranked #13 all time in Ontario and #38 all time in Canada for 15 year olds in the short course meters 100 breaststroke. In November 2019, she swam her best time of 1:11.01. Her best time also ranked her #3 for 15 year olds in Canada that season.

She will begin her senior year this fall at Westgate Collegiate & Vocational Institute. Her best short course meters and short course yards conversions can be seen below:

  • 100 breaststroke: 1:11.01 SCM (Converts to 1:03.97 SCY)
  • 200 breaststroke: 2:33.94 SCM (Converts to 2:18.68 SCY)
  • 200 IM: 2:19.99 SCM (Converts to 2:06.11 SCY)
  • 400 IM: 5:02.44 SCM (Converts to 4:32.46 SCY)

Eastern Michigan University is a public university located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The school is a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

At the 2021 MAC Championships, Eastern Michigan finished 6th out of 8 teams. The team scored 305 points and was only 15 points behind 5th place team Ball State. Rising senior Riley Hofmann finished 6th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:20.52. Rising sophomore Lainie Bell also swam to a 6th place finish, in the 100 backstroke (54.25), and rising senior Ali Staver also earned a 6th place finish, in the 200 butterfly (1:59.35).

Harri has the potential to make an immediate impact for Eastern Michigan at the conference level. Based off of her best time conversions, she would have made the B final in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. She also would have been the highest place finisher for the team in both of those events.

She also has the potential to make an impact on the 400 medley relay with her breaststroke leg. The EMU women finished 7th out of 8 teams in that relay, and rising sophomore Kayla Whitehead swam a 100 breaststroke relay split of 1:04.69. Based off of her best converted time, Harri’s split has the potential to make the relay 0.72 seconds faster. The relay was 1.05 seconds behind 6th place finisher Toledo.

Harri will join EMU next fall as a member of the class of 2026 along with Emma Wortman.
