Campbell County broke state records in both freestyle relays and the 100 breast to win its third consecutive 4A state title in Wyoming high school swimming.
Senior Annie Waldum and sophomore Sani Carsrud each went 4-for-4 in state titles to help power that Campbell County win.
Waldum repeated as 100 breast champion, breaking the state record in prelims with a 1:03.56. She would come back in finals to go 1:04.21, beating out freshman teammate Jenny Holwell (1:04.85) as Campbell County went 1-2-3-4 in the event, a backbreaking finish for any teams hoping to challenge for the points lead.
Waldum also won the 200 IM in 2:10.82, crushing the field by more than 4 seconds.
Carsrud, meanwhile, won the 50 free in 23.28, with Holwell once again second. Carsrud would come back after the diving break to go 57.36 and win the 100 fly. Carsrud is now just a half-second off the state 50 free record and a little more than a second away from the fly mark with two years of eligibility remaining.
Waldum helped lead the 200 medley relay to a state title in the meet’s opening event. She joined Taylor Schiefelbein, Taylor Baldacci and Shaylee Ochsner to go 1:51.66. For her part, Carsrud led the 400 free relay to victory, leading off the team of herself, Holwell, Baldacci and Rylie Pilon that went 3:34.36 and broke the state record.
Finally, Waldum and Carsrud combined on the winning 200 free relay, manning the first two legs of the new state record-holding team. Carsrud led off, followed by Waldum, Holwell and Pilon to go 1:37.35.
Though Waldum will graduate this year, Campbell County is still exceedingly young, as Holwell, Baldacci and Ochsner are all freshmen and Carsrud is a sophomore.
Outside of the team champions, Rock Springs sophomore Rebecka Anderson defended both of her state titles. She was 5:16.56 to just touch out Sheridan’s Molly Green (5:16.63) for the 500 free title, and returned to go 59.87 in winning the 100 back.
Both of the runners-up in those races were state champs in their second events. Green, a sophomore, won the 200 free in 1:55.95, and 100 back runner-up Samantha Geyer of Cheyenne Central won the 100 free in 52.42. Geyer was the 50 free champ last year, but did not swim the event this season as a sophomore.
On the diving board, Laramie senior Ryleigh Kobbe won the meet, scoring 424.00 points and getting within 40 of the state record. That helped Laramie take second overall as a team.
