Livermore, California swimmer MaryKatieWoods has verbally committed to swim at Texas Christian University for 2016-17.

“The team was so amazing.  The coaching staff was great.  I felt right at home when I stepped on to campus.  Everyone was SO welcoming!! So proud to be a TCU Horned Frog!!”

Woods swims under coach Steve Morsilli at Pleasanton Seahawks, where she has been a team captain for the last two seasons. She will be attending the World Cup Championship in Doha, Qatar in early November.

A USA Swimming Scholastic All America Team member, Woods swims for Livermore High School where she holds five individual school records and contributed to three relay records. She was also the team captain for the 2015 high school swim season which culminated in a qualification for the inaugural California State Championships. At the CIF North Coast Section championships, Woods finished 12th in the 200 free (1:52.10) and fifth in the 500 free (4:58.89). She also anchored both Livermore’s freestyle relays.

Woods will be a versatile addition to the Horned Frogs’ squad, excelling in sprint free, distance free, and backstroke. Her top times include:

  SCY LCM
50 free 24.29 27.39
100 free 51.78 58.32
200 free 1:50.18 2:06.30
500/400 free 4:53.47 4:28.18
1000/800 free 10:12.49 9:18.15
1650/1500 free 17:27.13 17:30.38
100 back 58.62 1:06.38
200 back 2:09.48 2:24.02

Woods will be able to step in and immediately add value to the Horned Frogs when she arrives in the fall of 2016. Her best times would have made her the second-fastest 100/200 freestyler and the third-fastest 500 freestyler on the squad last season. Coach Richard Sybesma has put together a large and very deep class of 2019, which will make for an excellent training environment, and a good opportunity to challenge Iowa State and Kansas for second place at Big 12s.

The Horned Frogs have a swimmer in Katie Woods whose character is as big as her ability to glide through the water.
