Born on January 9, 1999, Li is a member of the Chinese National Swim team and the 2016 Olympic Team. Li is from Wenzhou, China.

National/International Competition

2014 Asian Games

Li won a silver medal in the 100M Butterfly and was part of the 4X100 Medley Relay which set a new Asian Games Record.

2015 World Championships

Li broke the Junior World Record in the semifinals of the 100M Fly, stroking to a 51.33.

A month later, swimming in a meet in Huangshan, Li broke the Junior World record in the 200M Fly with a time of 1:55.52.

2016 Rio Olympic Games

In his first Olympic Games at 17 years old, Li made the 100 meter butterfly final finishing 5th in 51.26. He was just 0.12 behind Michael Phelps, Laszlo Cseh and Chad Le Clos who tied for second place. In the 200 meter butterfly, Li finished 16th in the semi-final.

Li also made an appearance in the 4×100 meter medley relay swimming the butterfly leg, but he took over early and China was disqualified.

2017 World Championships

In the 100 meter butterfly final Li finished 6th in 50.96.

2018 Asian Games

Li repeated as the Asian Games silver medalist in the 100 fly (51.46) and added a bronze in the 200 fly (1:55.76). He also split 50.61 (fly) on China’s 4×100 medley relay that went onto win gold and set a new Asian record.

2018 Short Course World Championships

Li earned the bronze in the 200 butterfly with a personal best time of 1:50.39, finishing behind Daiya Seto and Chad LeClos, who each bested the previous world record time.

He also picked up a bronze in the 100 butterfly with an Asian record time of 49.25.
