Avery Spade Announces Transfer From Indiana To Arizona State

  3 Anya Pelshaw | July 26th, 2025

Avery Spade has announced she will join the Arizona State women’s roster for the upcoming 2025-2026 season. Spade spent the past three seasons at Indiana.

Spade returns to her home state after originally being from Tucson, Arizona. Tucson is about an hour and a half from Arizona State’s campus in Tempe.

This past season, Spade went three for three with best times at the Big Ten Championships. She finished 10th in the 200 fly (1:57.14), 22nd in the 100 fly (53.51), and 33rd in the 400 IM (4:18.40). She was slightly faster in prelims of the 100 fly with a 53.17.

Spade’s Best SCY Times:

  • 100 fly: 53.17
  • 200 fly: 1:57.14
  • 400 IM: 4:18.40

The Arizona State women captured the 2025 Big 12 title, finishing over 400 points ahead of 2nd place Arizona. The Sun Devils went on to finish 19th at the 2025 NCAA Championships.

Based on her best times, Spade has the potential to make a huge impact at the conference level. Her best time in the 200 fly would have been 3rd at the 2025 Big 12 Championships while her best time in the 100 fly would have been 4th. Her 400 IM time is on the border of the ‘A’ and ‘B’ final.

Arizona State was led by numerous transfers this past season under first year head coach Herbie Behm. Leading the way was fifth year Caroline Bentz (Virginia Tech) with 96 points at Big 12s while Deniz Ertan (Georgia Tech) was the 2nd highest scorer with 92 points.  Ertan won the Big 12 title in the 200 fly (1:54.92) while rising sophomore Julia Ullmann won the 100 fly (51.40). Ullmann was the only ‘A’ finalist in the 100 fly for the team.

Can we get the count of all the IU women’s transfers? They’re losing more than they’re keeping. Multiple girls transferred after their junior year, and now a rising senior. Exactly how bad are things at IU?

Correction—multiple rising juniors, not post-juniors. And let’s not forget, the entire freshman class jumped ship.

As bad as they’ve always been. If you aren’t “good” you’re experience is terrible, but they are great at pulling the wool over people’s eyes year after year in recruiting
