Mia Douglas, 12, Rancho San Dieguito (SI): Douglas set six best times at the SI Splash and Dash meet June 19-21 in Chula Vista, Calif., headlined by her swim in the 50 free. The meet featured four rounds of the event, with a head-to-head showdown in the final. Douglas lowered her best time twice, first going 28.11 in the semi-final to lower her month-old PB of 28.23. In the final, she broke 28 for the first time, clocking 27.88 to rank her #1 in the girls’ 11-12 age group this season. The Rancho San Dieguito member also cracked the top 10 in the age group this season in the 50 fly (29.98) and 50 back (32.13), ranking 8th and 9th, respectively. She added best times in the 100 free (1:02.45), 400 free (5:05.42) and 100 back (1:12.16).
Alexander Kovtounenko, 12, ORCA Swim Club (MA): Kovtounenko took on a massive schedule at the LAC Arena Classic A/BB/C meet last weekend in Lancaster, Pa., setting new best times in 11 events while racing the 1500 free for the first time. The ORCA Swim Club member moved into the top 10 in the boys’ 11-12 age group in five events, led by the 200 fly, where his 2:23.69 clocking ranks 3rd. He also moved to 5th in the 100 fly (1:03.90), 6th in the 50 fly (28.57), 7th in the 1500 free (17:59.36) and 10th in the 400 free (4:37.20), and moved into the top 20 in the 50 back (30.88), 100 free (59.94), 50 free (27.26) and 200 IM (2:27.49).
Claire Liu, 12, Lakeside Swim Team (KY): Liu set best times in six different events at the NAC Synergy Summer Sizzler just over a week ago in Nashville, climbing the seasonal rankings in the girls’ 11-12 age group. Liu clocked 1:08.04 in the 100 back, dropping over a second off her month-old best time of 1:09.06, to move into 2nd in the 11-12 age group this season. The Lakeside Swim Team member also moved to 8th this season in the 100 fly (1:06.68), 13th in the 200 free (2:14.34), 26th in the 100 free (1:02.47) and 36th in the 50 back (32.93).
Linrui An, 14, Carmel Swim Club (IN): After rewriting his personal record book at the Indy Spring Cup in May, An continued his momentum at the NAC Synergy Summer Sizzler, making his way into the top 100 all-time rankings for 13-14 boys in two events. The 14-year-old Carmel Swim Club member put up a time of 4:04.30 in the 400 free, lowering his previous best of 4:06.15 to move into 54th all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group and 4th this season. He also cracked the top 100 in the 200 free, posting a time of 1:56.34 for 91st all-time and 3rd this season. An also hit bests in the 100 back (1:03.48), 200 back (2:13.49) and 400 IM (4:39.27), the latter ranking him 8th this season in the age group.
Samara Davis, 10, Bolles School Sharks (FL): Davis shone at the June Classic in Jacksonville on June 18-21, setting four personal best times, including a pair of standout performances in the 100 freestyle. Davis lowered her PB down from 1:08.86 to 1:06.57 in the prelims, and then reset it in the final in 1:06.12, ranking her 3rd in the girls’ 10 & under age group this season. She also set back-to-back best times in the 200 free, culminating with a 2:29.41 in the final to rank 11th in the age group this season. The Bolles School Sharks product added bests in the 50 back (38.11) and 50 breast (44.00).
