ZPCH’s Synchronised swimmers take silver and bronze in Zaandam, The Netherlands

The following is a press release courtesy of ZPCH:

On Saturday, May 2nd, at the swimming pool “De Slag” in Zaandam, the synchronised swimming Age 2 national performance competitions took place. Hoofddorp’s ZPCH traveled to Zaandam with 10 swimmers and took silver in the duets and bronze with the group. Where technique is dominant in the early season of the synchronised swimming program, performance dominates the late season program. The youth competition is focused on three disciplines: solo, duet and group and this was, of course, the focus in Zaandam for the national performance competitions. Soloist Dilara Yugnuk took gold for De Dolfijn club in Amsterdam. ZPCH’s soloist Femke van Kesteren was a tenth of a point away from holding a place on the podium. With 62.5333 points, she came fourth behind the soloists from  Swol and De Dokkelaars.

ZPCH’s duets were represented by Vivienne van Eenennaam (13 from Alphen aan den Rijn) and Mayra Burger (14 from Koedijk, Alkmaar). This was the first time for both swimmers to jointly represent ZPCH in a competition. Sterre van der Jagt was also present as the duet’s reserve swimmer. With 63.5333points the duo earned a very well-deserved silver medal. ACZ’s Kim Schallenberg and Manolya Yapar came third place with three tenths of a point behind. Dilara Yugnuk and Nesrine el Filali from De Dolfijn took gold.

De Dolfijn team proved themselves to be true gold-diggers! They also won the group competition. ZPCH really proved themselves coming in third place with 61.7333 points and one point behind Cadans, the team from Beuningen. The team from the Hoofddorp club were represented by swimmers Femke van Kesteren,  Britt de Moes, Kishan Sahertian, Vivienne van Eenennaam, Mayra Burger, Sterre van der Jagt, MadeleineRegtering and Emme-Lotte Cools. Miryanna Spaan and Gioia Captijn were present at the competition as reserve swimmers.

Esther de Heij and Nienke Grun accompanied the ZPCH athletes at the competition. De Heij: “It was a match with mixed feelings. I’m pleasantly surprised with the duet. Very good results for competing together for the first time. But as much as with the duet, as with the solo and the group, I see plenty of opportunities for further growth. It was good to see that our athletes today also looked at other teams and were critical about themselves. Improvement is the magic word as we head towards the Synchrobeat –  where technique and performance come together – later in Eindhoven”
