Yu Hexin Nails 21.68 Chinese National Record In Men’s 50 Free

2021 CHINA NATIONAL GAMES

While we saw Liu Xiang post a new Asian continental record in the omen’s 50m free to close out these 2021 China National Games, Yu Hexin did some major damage in the men’s version of the event.

Stopping the clock in a time of 21.68 tonight in Shaanxi, Yu registered a new Chinese national record in the event en route to taking the gold.

Tonight Yu hit the only sub-22 second outing of the field, as teammate Wang Changhao and Zhang Zhoujian posted times of 22.06 and 22.17 to collect silver and bronze, respectively.

Entering this meet, Yu’s personal best and Chinese national standard rested at the 21.79 he earned at the Chinese National Championships in September of 2020. When it came time for Tokyo, the 25-year-old logged a mark of 22.14 to place 19th and find himself out of the semi-final.

His time here tonight of 21.68, however, would have placed 5th in the men’s 50m free final in Tokyo.

Okay but how fast is his 2 mile run? That’s gotta be just as important, right?

Is this the guy that breathes (or at least used to breathe) every second stroke in the 50m?

Also the former World Junior Record holder from back in 2014

Significantly faster times than ever before at a off-season Chinese exclusive event???????????? No questions about that here.
