Laura Morley, a Bahamian breaststroker who trains with the Peddie School in New Jersey, has verbally committed to the Indiana Hoosiers.
“I chose Indiana because of the great team spirit, team chemistry and the great experience that the coaches have. Indiana exceeds my expectations of what being a team means and I am so excited to spend the next 4 years with an awesome group and wear the Hoosier name proudly,” Morley said of the decision.
She’s another important piece of rebuilding Indiana’s breaststroke group next fall, after a year where they’re going to be very thin there in the 2014-2015 season.
In limited yards competition, Her breaststroke bests are 1:04.4 and 2:19.9, plus a 2:06.95 in the 200 IM. That 100 breaststroke time put her 2nd at the prestigious Eastern Interscholastic Championships last season.
In long course, she’s even better – she swam a 2:36.42 in the 200 at this summer’s Youth Olympic Games to break the Bahamian National Record.
She joins a class that includes the best high school breaststroker in the country: Lily King.
The Hoosiers’ best breaststroker in the early-going this season has been Claudia Dicapua with a 1:06.5 in the 100; and Sam Lisy who has been 2:22.6 in the 200 breast.
