The YMCA of the Triangle Area broke the 15-16 National Age Group Record in prelims of the 200 yard free relay on Friday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Colin Ellington, Seth Maslowski, Noah Franz, and Chris Kohut combined for a 1:23.44, and the second seed on Friday morning.
That breaks the old record of 1:24.22 set just a few weeks ago by the 15-16’s from SwimMAC Carolina (though, that record wasn’t yet recognized by USA Swimming as others done that weekend were, so the record on the books is still the Claremont Club.)
The record wasn’t immediately obvious, as live results had 18-year old Ben Mayes as the third leg, but YOTA coaches ensure us that it was, in fact, the 16-year old Franz who swam that leg, and that they are correcting it with the official scorer now.
- Colin Ellington (20.52)
- Seth Moslowski (20.71)
- Noah Franz (21.11)
- Chris Kohut (21.10)
Ellington’s leadoff split was the fastest of them, and a very impressive time. His 20.21 from earlier in the meet ranks him among the top ten 16 & unders in the country this year.
