Yale Adds YNats A-Finalist Marcus Hodgson for 2020-21

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Marcus Hodgson of Riverside, Connecticut has committed to Yale University’s class of 2024. He will join Adam Zapatka, Ben Phifer, Conner Kang, and Nathan Borges in New Haven in the fall. A senior at Brunswick School in Greenwich, Hodgson is a sprint free specialist who won the 50 free (20.81) and placed 3rd in the 100 free (46.15) at the New England Division 1 Prep School Championships in March. A month earlier, at Eastern Interscholastics, he had been 4th in the 50 (20.52) and 6th in the 100 (45.52).

Hodgson does his club swimming with YMCA Of Greenwich Marlins. In December, he competed at NCAP Invitational where he placed 3rd in the 50 free, 3rd in the 100 free, and 5th in the 100 fly and scored a PB in the 50 free. At last summer’s YMCA Long Course National Championships, he came in 11th in the 100 free, 4th in the 50 fly, and 7th in the 100 fly and earned lifetime bests in the 50m fly (25.20) and 100m fly (56.50).

His best SCY times include:

  • 50 free – 20.44
  • 100 free – 45.03
  • 200 free – 1:40.98
  • 100 fly – 49.23
  • 100 back – 52.55
  • 200 IM – 1:53.96

Yale finished a distant third behind Harvard and Princeton at the 2020 Ivy League Men’s Championships but the bright spot for the Bulldogs was their depth in the shorter end of the freestyle range where they won both the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay. Hodgson’s best times would have placed him in the C finals of the 50/100/200 free and the 100 fly at the conference meet. Freshman Joseph Page led the Yale sprint freestylers with bronze-medal finishes in both the 50 free and the 100 free and a 6th-place finish in the 200.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to swim at Yale next year. I chose Yale because I loved the coaches and the team environment. Thanks to my family, friends, and coaches who helped me get to this point!”
