Xu Jiayu Lights Up Day 2 With Another National Record At Chinese Spring National Championships

After an exciting first day at the Chinese Spring National Championships, we saw Sun Yang’s return to competition and Xu Jiayu win the 100 backstroke with the fastest time in the world this year. Jiayu continued to impress on day 2 of the championships.

The women’s 50 butterfly was won by Lu Ying with a time of 25.94. Her previous season best time was from February in Perth where she swam a 26.59. She moves up from 19th in the world to 4th in the TYR World Rankings. Liu Lan finished second with a 26.39, and she now holds the 12th fastest time of the year.

Xu Jiayu continues his hot streak with a win in the 50 backstroke. His time of 24.58 moved him up 23 spots in the TYR World Rankings, contributing the third fastest time in the world of the year. Xu now sits in second, only .04 seconds behind Australia’s Benjamin Treffers, and in the process broke his second National Record of the meet.

Shen Dao and Tang Yi had a close race in the women’s 100 freestyle. Dao touched out Yi with her time of 54.15, to Yi’s 54.18. Those times move Dao into the top 15 in the world this year. Yi Shiwen, the 400 IM world record holder, finished fourth with a time of 54.73.

Wang Shun dropped three seconds from his time in Perth to win the men’s 200 IM. His time of 1:57.33 not only won by almost two seconds, he also moves up from 26th in the world to 8th in the world. Although it increases his international rank significantly, there are still three Japanese swimmers ranked higher than him. He is within tenths of a second of two of them, but Kosuke Hagino has the fastest time in the world at 1:55.38.

Shi Jinglin ran away with the women’s 200 breaststroke, winning the event by more than four seconds. Her time of 2:22.90 moves her to fifth in the world this year. Zhang Xinyu finished second with a time of 2:27.09.

Xu is the future of backstroke… period

Wang Shun clocked 1:56 in 200IM last year. He himself told he is not in top form now. In Asian Games he will go 155 and 4:08 low or 4:07 in 400 IM . It will be far from easy for Hagino. Tang Yi time is another example that some top athletes are not in top form, certainly because this is not the only way to become part of the national team. Anyway, this is still a strong meet. Poor japanese (boys and girls) , they will suffer a lot in september !!!

Isnt Xu Jiayu’s 50 back time the third fastest in the world not second so far this year?:
