WPI Women Top Wesleyan in Saturday Dual

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Freshman Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA) posted a second-place time in the 50-yard freestyle as WPI defeated host Wesleyan in women’s swimming & diving action Saturday.

The Engineers bested the Cardinals 169-145, and were upended by No. 5 Williams 242-73 and No. t16 Tufts 237-84. The Ephs also defeated Wesleyan 239-73 and the Jumbos 214.50-104.50. Tufts took down the hosts 234-80.

Pawlak clocked a 24.54 after handing in a fourth-place 50-yard butterfly (27.01). A member of the eight-place (3:47.05) 400-yard freestyle relay, Pawlak was joined by sophomore Audrey Berner (San Jose, CA), junior Alice Morgan (Cornwall, NY) and junior Carol Wang (Framingham, MA). Berner was 11th in the 100-yard freestyle (55.80) while Wang was fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (59.61).

Freshman Rayna Harter (Plainfield, IL) came home third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.69) and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.11), and fifth in the 400-yard IM (4:43.25).

Classmate Molly Sykes (Falmouth, MA) chipped in with fourth-place (32.27) and sixth-place (1:10.66) times in the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke, respectively.

Senior Jenna Vandervort (Voorheesville, NY) led the Crimson and Gray in the 200-yard breaststroke (5th – 2:33.12), 50-yard backstroke (13th – 30.40) and 200-yard freestyle (14th – 2:02.68). Sophomore Julia Noël (Beverly, MA) took sixth in both dives, highlighted by a 205.70 on the 3-meter.

Sophomore Mary Rego (Amherst, NH) was 11th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.44) and junior Jillian Clemente (Killingworth, CT) was 14th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.87).

WPI travels to Stevens Institute of Technology for a 1pm dual on Saturday, January 12. Williams and Wesleyan host Amherst and Hamilton, respectively, on January 5, and Tufts is at Wheaton on January 19.
