The Woodlands Breaststroker Ryan Sorensen Gives Verbal Commitment to BYU

Ryan Sorensen, who swims for The Woodlands High and The Woodlands Swim Team, has made a verbal commitment to Brigham Young University for 2015-16.

Sorensen is a US Open qualifier in the 100 breast (55.56). As a junior he was runner-up at the 2014 Texas 5A state meet in the 100 breast and was a member of all three Woodlands relays. His best events are:

100y breast: 55.56 100m breast: 1:06.55
200y breast: 2:04.66 200m breast 2:26.02
200y IM: 1:55.57 200m IM: 2:14.55

Sorensen will be joining a BYU men’s team that won the 2014 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship, avenging their third-place finish the year before. He should help the Cougars score points in both breaststroke events and the IM. His top 100 breast time is already only about .5 outside BYU’s all-time top-five list.

The Cougars are no strangers to Sorensen breaststrokers: Ryan will join his brother Chad who will be a senior when Ryan is a freshman. Chad was 2014 MPSF champion in the 200 breast and he took third in the 100 breast; he is on the all-time top-five list for both events.
