Winter U.S. Open Qualifier Taylor Kabacy (2020) Verbally Commits to Utah

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Taylor Kabacy, a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Tacoma, Washington, has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Utah for 2020-21.

“I am so excited to finally announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academics at the University of Utah class of 2024! I’d like to thank everyone who helped me through this process including my family, friends, teammates, and coaches! Go Utes!!”

Kabacy is a senior at Stadium High School and swims year-round for Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club. She specializes mainly in mid-distance and distance events and has a Winter US Open cut in the 400 free, Summer Juniors cuts in the 200/800 free and Winter Juniors cuts in the 1500 free, 200 back, and 400 IM. She competed in the 200/400/800/1500 free and 400 IM at 2019 Speedo Junior Nationals, going best times in the 1500 (17:11.65) and 800 (8:56.28). A week earlier she had been at Pacific Northwest Swimming Senior LC Championships. There she notched PBs in the 200 free (2:02.46) and 400 free (4:20.02) and was runner-up in the 400/800/1500 free, 4th in the 200 free, and 6th in the 200 IM.

Her best SCY times in her main events date from December 2017’s Washington State Senior Short Course Championships:

  • 200 free – 1:49.59
  • 500 free – 4:51.18
  • 1000 free – 10:01.00
  • 1650 free – 16:49.72

Kabacy will join the Utes with fellow verbal commit Amber Gardner. She would have scored at 20th in the 1650 free at 2019 Pac-12 Women’s Championships, behind current juniors Sara McClendon (16th) and Mandy Gebhart (18th), with whom she will overlap one year. She would have just missed finaling in the 500 free (it took 4:50.48 to get a second swim) and the 200 free (1:48.80 was the cutoff).
