Will Cumberland Doubles Up On Final Night of NCAP Invite

2016 NCAP INVITE

17-year-old Will Cumberland won a pair of events to close out night 4 of the 2016 NCAP Invite.

The meet, hosted by Cumberland’s club, the Nation’s Capital Swim Club, took place over the weekend in College Park, Maryland. Cumberland was the only double individual winner of Sunday’s sessions, taking the open 200 back and 200 IM.

He was 1:46.26 in the 200 back early in the night, then followed it up with a 1:48.47 win in the 200 IM later on. Both were drops from his previous lifetime-bests. Cumberland’s previous best in the back was a 1:47.09 from NCSA Junior Nationals this past spring and his previous best 200 IM was a 1:48.51 from Winter Nationals just over a week ago.

Phoebe Baconwho has been rapidly climbing up the 13-14 all-time ranks at this meet, won another event Sunday. Her 2:01.80 took home the 200 IM title. That ranks just outside the top 50 ever in the 13-14 age group.

Isabel Gormley got under two minutes in the 200 back, winning the 13-14 event in 1:59.87. The boys event went to Mason Young in 1:52.36. Meanwhile Anna Belousovaone of the top swimmers available in the NCAA recruiting market, won the 200 IM in 1:58.71.

Wow! Looks like something was left out of your story. Let’s add to this story line. In the 13-14 200yd Back – Mason Young from ACA (Arena Club Aquatics) broke a 16 year Maryland state record held by Michale Phelps 1:52:55 set in 2000. Mason Young’s time was 1:52:36. If you are going to put up that someone won two events, how about putting up state record breakers! Congrats to Mason Young!!
