The men and women of Wheaton IL hosted the Wheaton Quadrangular Meet at Chrouser Natatorium this past Saturday. The women posted an overall win with 561 points while the men’s team finished in fourth with 434 points. Lake Forest won the men’s meet.
Wheaton’s 400 medley relay started off with a victory. Jamie Walitsch, Erin Bagley, Kirsty Nitz and Sarah Coley touched first, ahead of second place Kalamazoo. Nitz went on to win the 100 and 200 freestyles, as well, touching in 53.98 and 1:56.92, respectively. Bagely logged a third place finish in the 200 back in 2:32.43, behind teammate Chelsea Long (2:32.95). Coley won the 200 IM in 2:15.36.
The 1000 freestyle was a close race, but Cariline Dirks won, touching in at 11:04.65 to beat out Lake Forest’s Loren Dutca.
Hope College came in second to Wheaton, finishing with 474 points. Kalamazoo Collelge was third with 453, and Lake Forest College finished fourth with 256 points.
For the men’s meet, it was a significantly closer race. 500 points put Lake Forest in the win, with Hope second in 454.5. Kalamazoo was third with 439.5 points, and Wheaton was 434.
The men’s 400 medley relay finished second. Korey Clement claimed a win in the 500 freestyle in 4:53.04. Elliot Penson brought the team the second of its victories, winning the 200 IM in 2:00.41. He also took third in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:11.33.
Wheaton returns to the water on January 18 to face off against Carthage College.
