Two observations about Phelps: First, he seems to be over-rotating onto his hyper-extended right arm in the 100 free. He’s always done that to some extent, but now his arm seems to extend directly in front of his head instead of his shoulder, with the result that it takes him longer to get into the high-elbow catch. Compare his freestyle in London, for instance, where his right arm was a more immediate lever; the elbow never fully hyper-extended and it pointed up/out rather than down just prior to the catch. Second, he told NBC that he needs to work on getting out faster in the 100 “without hurting [his] 200.” Sounds like he’s reluctant to adopt the flatter sprint stroke… Read more »

Loved his interview. He felt easy, relaxed and open. I like this Michael Phelps quite a bit!

in the last 25 mins they showed the last few strokes of the women’s 200 fly, men’s 1500, women’s 400 im and 4 x 2. they also showed the women’s 100 free, men’s 100 free and finished off with the men’s 4 x 2. no women’s 800 free or men’s 400 IM !

I purposely missed the NBC broadcast. The coverage is better here on SwimSwam with prelims and then the better coverage offered on Youtube.

It’s still nice to watch the races in HD on a big screen.

The Men’s 200 back was very exciting , uncertain even after the 160 meter mark , Clary did pull off a great last 50 . Man , that was a win .

The 100 free from Manuel was a delight to watch ! Wowwwwwww what a solid swim that was 53.25 !! Just on the tail of Cate Campbell …. Impressive girl indeed . She has that very fast entry in the water followed by a fluid solid stroke , keeping up at the 50 with Cate !
The 2 sisters are a really powerfull duet for Australia ; specially in this relay But Usa might well be way closer within one year ; that’s great for the sport .

Not sure the best place to post this, but found this article from Australia with regards to the awful weather conditions.

http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/gold-coasts-42m-aquatic-centre-pool-slammed-by-top-swimmers-and-coaches-for-not-having-a-roof/story-fnihsrf2-1227034360853?nk=8f821047612f8841a3ad296510878c5e

THE Gold Coast Aquatic Centre has become a $42 million international embarrassment with swimmers and coaches fuming at the failure to put a roof over such expensive and important infrastructure for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The 2014 Pan Pacs has been ruined by horrendous wet and windy weather that has left athletes, coaches and spectators frustrated and freezing cold with almost the entire venue exposed to the elements.

US superstar Michael Phelps labelled the conditions “crazy” while Australian champion Emily Seebohm said she felt for spectators who braved the weather… Read more »

Mayor Tom Tate needs to be more understanding about the position the athletes were put in.

Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson swam for nearly twenty years. Then, Jared Anderson stopped swimming and started writing about swimming. He's not sick of swimming yet. Swimming might be sick of him, though.
