Once A Wahoo, Always A… Wilton’s Robby Giller Commits to Virginia

Robby Giller, a senior at Wilton High School who swims for the Wilton Y Wahoos, verbally committed to swim for the University of Virginia.

“I knew as soon as I stepped on the grounds that UVA was the place for me. I found a perfect combination of a world-class education and a great swim program that is on the rise. I’m excited to be a Wahoo for another four years!”

Giller does not swim for his high school, but he had a stellar junior year of club swimming. In short course season he reeled in a pair of top-8 finishes and a pair of top-16 finishes at the 2016 YMCA Short Course National Championships. He placed 8th in the 1000 free and 400 IM, and and 14th in the 500 free and 200 fly. Giller’s long course season was even better; he was crowned national champion in the 400m IM, winning by a 9-second margin, at the 2016 YMCA Long Course National Championships. At the same meet he also finished 5th in the 400 free, 3rd in the 800, and 3rd in the 1500.

Giller’s top times are:

  SCY LCM
1650/1500 free 15:49.62 15:42.97
1000/800 free 9:18.05 8:18.64
500/400 free 4:31.42 3:59.75
200 free 1:43.13 1:55.22
400 IM 3:58.40 4:26.69

The Cavaliers are off to a strong start building the class of 2021. In addition to that of Giller, UVA has received verbal commitments from Cooper Wozencraft, Dylan Cudahy, Edward Rudman, and Matt Otto.

The Virginia men look like they’re having another great recruiting season. If they can lock up a few more guys that’ll be 3 fantastic classes in a row!
