Virginia’s Williamson Added to World University Games Roster

University of Virginia sophomore Ellen Williamson has been added to the American World University Games roster in the 200 backstroke.

Williamson finished 6th in the 200 backstroke at this summer’s U.S. Open in Indianapolis, the selection meet for the World University Games, but only two of those in front of her were Americans – Megan Romano from Georgia and Kendyl Stewart from USC. Romano has dropped the 200 backstroke from her schedule, preferring to focus on her specialties the freestyles (50, 100, and 200) and shorter backstroke race (100 backstroke) for which she has also qualified. Romano will likely be on three relays as well, so this will bring her schedule to a more manageable 7 events in 7 days.

That is, of course, if Romano doesn’t make the World Championships squad instead. There is a very good chance that she’ll head to Barcelona at least as a member of the 800 free relay, if not both the 400 and 800 free relays, after just missing the Olympic squad this summer.
