Virginia Tech Scores Two More Verbals: Nicole Pape and Heather Sigmon

The H2Okies picked up another pair of verbal commitments, to add to those already received by future members of the Virginia Tech class of 2021, Allison Goldblatt and Emily Meilus. Nicole Pape of Rochester, Michigan and Heather Sigmon of Greensboro, North Carolina have both given their verbal pledge to the H2Okies this week.

Nicole Pape

“My phone call with Coach Skinner when I committed was the most relieving, exciting call I’ve ever made. I’ve loved the process of recruiting, and I’ve gotten to know many programs really well, but from the beginning there was something special about VT. My first call with Coach Huger was one of my first 5 phone calls, and it was the first call early on in the process that went really really well. As I kept in touch, the coaches and program grew on me more and more, and my trip sealed the deal. I am so ecstatic to be an H2okie!!”

Pape is a senior at Adams High School in Rochester, Michigan. At the 2015 MHSAA Division II Girls Championship Meet last November, Pape was runner-up in both the 200 IM (2:05.12) and 100 fly (56.52). She also anchored Adams’ 400 free relay (52.32) and swam fly (24.99) on the 200 medley relay.

Pape swims year-round for Oakland Live Y’ers, with whom she has achieved Winter Juniors cuts in 100/200 breast, 200 fly, and 200/400 IM. She was a finalist in all three distances of the breaststroke events at the 2016 NCSA Summer Swimming Championship, and her top SCY times are:

  • 200 IM – 2:02.74
  • 400 IM – 4:20.85
  • 100 breast – 1:03.75
  • 200 breast – 2:18.05
  • 100 fly – 56.52
  • 200 fly – 2:03.06

Heather Sigmon

Sigmon is a senior at Northwest Guilford High School. She is a three-time finalist in the 100 yard backstroke at the NCHSAA 4A State Championship. Sigmon trains and competes year-round for the GCY Makos (Greensboro YMCA). She is a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 100 back and also excels in fly and IM. A multiple finalist at YMCA Nationals and one-time finalist at USA Swimming’s Junior Nationals, her best time in the 100 back scores at ACC Championships and is an NCAA Championships B-cut.

“I chose Virginia Tech because it has great academics as well as athletics and I felt a real connection with the team and coaches. I can’t wait to be a Hokie!”

Top times:

  • 50 back: 25.36 / 30.01
  • 100 back: 54.15 / 1:03.42
  • 200 back: 2:01.84 / 2:20.88
