Bitz is a versatile get for the ‘Hoos, with his best events coming in the backstrokes and IM’s.

This summer, Bitz finished in the top 10 in four events at the 2019 NCSA Summer Championships. His highest finish came in the 200 back, where he went a 2:03.96 to take third. He was also fifth in the 200 fly (2:04.03), seventh in the 100 back (57.61), and 10th in the 200 IM (2:07.50), going LCM bests in all of those events.

As far as backstroke goes, UVA is about to graduate 45.1/1:40.6 backstroker Joe Clark, and 47.1/1:41.6 backstroker Cooper Wozencraft has one year left after this season. Justin Grender, a 47.2/1:47.4 backstroker, will have one year of overlap with Bitz; Grender is a sophomore now.

UVA has a strong IM group, too, and 2019 ACC 400 IM A-finalist Casey Storch will have one year of overlap with Bitz, while freshman Sean Conway will have two.

Bitz joins #18 Jack Aikins, Matthew Styczen, Max Iida, and Tyler Sicignano in the UVA class of 2025 on the men’s side.
