Virginia to Host Quad Against Penn State, Texas and West Virginia

The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams host their first meet of the season, a quad meet against Penn State, Texas and West Virginia, this weekend (Nov. 8-9) at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.

The diving portion of the meet will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday and will see both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards contested. The swimming session on Friday evening will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature the 200 freestyle relay, 200 IM, 500 free, 100 breaststroke, 200 backstroke, 100 free, 200 butterfly and 400 medley relay. Saturday’s swimming session will start at 10 a.m.and will see the 200 medley relay, 1,000 free, 50 free, 100 back, 200 breast, 100 fly, 200 free, 400 IM and 400 free relay events contested.

Live results of the action will be available through VirginiaSports.com. Admission to Virginia swimming and diving meets is free to the public. Surrounding parking lots are open to the public after 5 p.m. on Friday and all day on Saturday, however fans are advised to adhere to the posted parking signs. For diving and before 5 p.m. on Friday, there will be a few metered spaces available at the AFC and free parking is available at Slaughter Recreation Center and the parking lot closest to the West Gate at Scott Stadium.

The Virginia women are ranked 18th in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) national poll, while the men have been tabbed 24th. Texas’ men and women are ranked fourth and sixth, respectively, while Penn State’s men and women are 20th and 25th, respectively.

The Cavaliers opened the season Oct. 25 in Annapolis, Md., where the women defeated Navy, 250-50, and Yale, 237-63, while the men were victorious against the Midshipmen, 212-88. The Cavalier women posted the top marks in all 16 events, while the UVa men finished first in 14 of 16 events.

Up next, the Cavaliers travel to Columbus, Ohio, Nov. 22-24 for the Ohio State Invitational, which will feature Virginia, Florida, Kentucky, Purdue, as well as the host Buckeyes.
