The Virginia Gators won the Men, Women and also the combined team titles in the Dolfin ISCA Summer Senior Championships at the North Shore Complex in St Petersburg that ended Saturday night.
Miles Smachlo won the Senior Boys’ high point award – leading the Schenectady-Saratoga Swim Club to a 2nd place combined team finish. The Woodlands finished in third in the team race.
The Michigan-bound Smachlo won the 50 free (24.03), 50 fly (25.10), 200 free (1:52.41), 100 fly (54.53) and 200 fly (2:02.08). He couldn’t hold off The Woodlands’ breaststroker Jonathan Tybur in the 200 IM – finishing 2nd (2:05.45) to Tybur’s 2:05.03. Smachlo finished 3rd in the 400 freestyle (4:04.49). Miles led off his Schenectady 400 free relay in 51.94 and posted a 53.4 butterfly split on the 400 Medley Relay.
Schenectady-Saratoga also got strong showings from 16 year olds Zac Zwijacz and Maggie Wyngowski. Zwijacz won both 16-under butterfly races – the 100 in 56.95 and a blistering 2:04.42 in the 200. He also began his week with his first ever LC Juniors cut in the 200 IM, finishing in third place with a 2:08.68.
Wyngowski finished 2nd in the 16-Under 200 Breast (2:39.00), and third in the 200 IM (2:20.95) and 400 IM in 4:59.40. Wyngowski also swam the breaststroke leg on The Sharks winning 16-Under 400 Medley Relay – joining Lisa Dong, Bailey Smith and Mattie Williams to finish in 4:25.68.
The Virginia Gators were led by 16-Under high point winners Emmy Muzzy and Keith Myburgh.
Muzzi won both IMs (2:19,44 and 4:52.36), both breaststrokes (1:14.32 and 2:38.38) and the 100 backstroke (1:04.13). Muzzi also led the Gators in 5 different relay wins on the week.
Myburgh started off by finishing 2nd in the 16-Under 200 IM to Clearwater’s Ricardo Martinez in a 2:07.61, and never looked back. Myburgh won 200 breast (2:25.08), 400 IM (4:29.53), 50 breast (31.04) and 100 breast (1:06.32). Myburgh also finished 2nd in the 200 fly and 400 freestyle.
Tybur – who also swims at Texas AM dominated the Senior Boys’ breaststroke this week. Tybur won the 50 in 28,73 , the 100 in 1:02.10 , and the 200 in 2:14.32.
Jordan Wheeler from Eagle Swim Association – outside Houston – was the Senior womens’ high point winner. Jordan won the 50 free in 26.54 and 50 back (30.55) in back-to-back races. Wheeler also won the 100 freestyle in 58.23.

The Dolfin Summer meet begins a busy month for the International Swim Coaches Association. ISCA will be hosting their 7th annual Hall of Fame Clinic in Clearwater Beach at the end of the month. The 3-day clinic will feature Eddie and Randy Reese, Braden Holloway, Bill Sweetenham, Bob Gillett and Mark Schubert – among many others. The week will end with an ISCA Hall of Fame induction of Sweetenham and Gillett. More information can be found at Swimisca.com.
