VIDEO: Amy Van Dyken staying positive, going to ‘rock out’ wheelchair

Olympic champ Amy Van Dyken talked to the press today from an Arizona airfield just before flying out to Denver, where she’ll continue her recovery from a devastating spinal injury sustained in an ATV accident last week.

In the video, embedded below courtesy of USA Today, Van Dyken flashes the trademark positive attitude that has characterized her public reaction to the injury so far.

“I’m going to get the best wheelchair ever,” said Van Dyken. “I’m going to put skulls and crossbones on it, because that’s my thing. Make it purple… I’m gonna do my hair to match my chair and I’m going to rock it out. That’s my prognosis.”

Van Dyken also confirms that she has no feeling below her hips, though it’s uncertain if her paralysis will be permanent or not. After this interview, she flew to Denver, where she’ll continue rehabbing closer to home.

I sure wouldn’t be able to maintain a positive attitude like she has under these circumstances! My opinion of the kind of person Amy is has skyrocketed! We haven’t heard the last from this remarkable lady!
