SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah swimming and diving team welcomes Arizona State and Arizona this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21-22. Action on Friday is set to begin at 5 p.m. with competition Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Both meets are being promoted as Blackouts
UTAH NOTES
At the FGCU Invitational, the men finished second overall, with the women placing fifth. Jack Burton had an impressive showing for the Utes, taking first in the both the 100 breast (54.86) and 200 breast (2:00.60). Another top finish for the Utes was turned in by Liam O’Haimhirgin in the 100 free, touching in at 45.25. Rahiti De Vos was second in the 200 free (1:38.00) and in the 500 free (4:28.70).
On the women’s side, Stina Colleou took third in the 100 breast touching in at 1:03.96. The women’s 200 medley relay team consisting of Shayla Archer, Mariah Gassaway, Kristine Pataray and Gillian St.John took third as well (1:42.79). Jordan Anderson took fourth in both the 400 IM (4:23.64) and the 500 free (5:00.56).
Freshman Matteo Sogne captured the 1,650 free and the 500 free at the Intermountain Shooutout. In the first event he came away with a time of 15.48.57 while in the 500, he clocked in a time of 4:33.81. More wins for the Utes came from Nolan Rogers in the 400 IM (4:03.89) and Chris Taber in the 200 fly (1:50.49).
Brianna Francis took home the win for the women in the 400 IM (4:29.85). Second-place finishes were recorded by Kat Wickham in the 500 free (5:07.00) and 1,650 free (17:31.71) and McKenna Gassaway (50 breast, 30.00). In the 200 back, Mallori Allen took fourth with a time of 2:05.20.
Utah divers took on Hawaii this past weekend. Amanda Casillas took first in two events and four student-athletes qualified for NCAA Zones.
Casillas took first in both the three-meter and the one-meter. On the three-meter, she came out with a total score of 295.60 while on the one-meter, she tallied a score of 295.60. Lauren Hall took second in both events (three-meter, 281.35; one-mete
Josiah Purss also had a top finish for the Utes this weekend. He took home the win in the one-meter event with a total score of 329.65. Connor Cain followed in second (308.50). Purss also took second in the three-meter (345.95) with Cain in third (281.45).
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
This will be Arizona State’s first competition of the season.
Arizona took on Hawaii at the beginning of the month. The men came came out on top with a score of 195-105 while the women came away with a score of 232-68. The women also competed against Northern Arizona taking the win, 222-77.

The Utes will travel to Las Vegas on Nov. 4 where they will take on the UNLV Rebels.
