USC Men and Women Take Down ASU

The Trojan’s multiple event-winners on both the men’s and women’s sides pushed USC to an overall sweep, with the men winning 165-125 and the women scoring 169-127 over the Sun Devils at home at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center . This puts both the Trojan teams at a 3-0 record in the Pac-12.

The USC women started off the meet with a commanding win by almost seven seconds in the 400 Medley Relay (3:39.77) ahead of ASU’s A team (3:46.12). The Trojan men followed up with a 1-2 finish, touching in 3:14.40 and 3:18.93, respectively.

Sun Devil sophomore Anna Olasz took the first individual event of the meet for ASU with a win in the 1000 Free (10:01.52) ahead of USC sophomore Maggie D’Innocenzo (10:13.04) and Chelsea Chenault (10:26.67). On the men’s side, the freshmen pair of Pawel Furtek (9:12.98) and Ian Silverman (9:33.51) took the top two spots, respectively.

ASU senior Juanita Barreto finished first in the 200 Free (1:50.17) in a tight race ahead of junior Trojan Kendyl Stewart (1:50.32). Barreto‘s teammate Kat Simonovic was third in 1:51.45. For the men, USC’s Michael Domagala cleared the field by almost two seconds (1:38.95) ahead of second-place Sun Devil sophomore Barkley Perry (1:40.53).

Southern California took a 1-2-3 sweep in the women’s 100 Back, led by Trojan freshman Hannah Weiss (54.62). Her teammates Sidney Cooke (56.22) and Joanna Stenkvist (56.24) followed up for second and third. The senior duo of Luca Spinazzola (48.56) and Cary Wright (49.08) completed a 1-2 Trojan finish in the men’s event, ahead of third-place ASU sophomore Thomaz Martins (51.98).

Freshman Sun Devil Jorie Caneta (1:02.06) took first ahead of a Southern California 2-3 finish by USC junior Jasmine Tosky (1:03.25) and sophomore Jamie Christy (1:03.94). Trojan junior Ridge Altman took first in a close race on the men’s side (56.26) ahead of ASU junior Thibaut Capitaine (56.34) and his teammate Christian Lorenz (56.51).

Trojan senior Andrea Kropp won her first event of the meet in the 200 Fly with a 2:02.33. Sun Devil senior Lori Layne Kremer followed up for second in 2:03.68. The Sun Devils took home an event win in the men’s 200 Fly with senior Zac Dalby (1:49.71), touching just ahead of USC junior Ted Singley (1:49.92).

Arizona State kept the ball rolling with a win in the women’s 50 Free, as Sun Devil sophomore Alysha Bush (23.61) touched one tenth of a second ahead of USC sophomore Evan Swenson (23.71). Southern California took a 1-2-3 cover in the men’s event, led by sophomore Dylan Carter (20.13). His teammates Santo Condorelli (20.42) and Ralf Tribuntsov (20.59) took second and third, respectively.

Senior Trojan Haley Ishimatsu won the 1-meter platform event with a commanding score of 322.88 over second-place Sun Devil Mara Aiacoboae (277.35). USC divers Dashiell Enos (362.10) and Collin Pollard (340.65) completed a 1-2 sweep of the men’s event.

ASU picked up the momentum with a first place finish in the 100 Free by double event winner Alysha Bush (51.20), just five one-hundredths of a second ahead of USC’s Kendyl Stewart (51.25). Stewart led a 2-3-4 Trojan sweep, with teammates Diana Chang (51.39) and Evan Swenson (51.56) taking third and fourth, respectively. Sophomore Santo Condorelli (44.40) led a 1-2 USC sweep ahead of teammate Michael Domagala (45.32) in the men’s event.

The USC women responded with a 1-2 finish in the 200 Backstroke by junior Jasmine Tosky (2:01.20) and sophomore Maggie D’Innocenzo (2:01.45). USC freshman Ralf Tribuntsov led the charge in the men’s event (1:47.86), almost four seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Sun Devil sophomore Barkley Perry followed up for second in 1:51.11.

Trojan junior Andrea Kropp took her second win of the meet in the 200 Breast (2:14.11) ahead of an ASU 2-3 finish by Jorie Caneta (2:17.08) and Tory Houston (2:18.29). Sun Devil junior Thibaut Capitaine captured the win in the men’s event (2:02.17) ahead of USC junior Ridge Altman (2:02.76).

Southern California followed up with a 1-2 finish in both the men’s and women’s 500 Free. Trojan sophomore Chelsea Chenault (4:55.94) and junior Joanna Stenkvist (4:56.17) covered the women’s event, while freshman Pawel Furtek (4:32.92) and junior Ted Singley (4:36.73) took first and second, respectively, with the 500 Free being Furtek‘s second event win of the meet.

USC covered another 1-2 sweep in the women’s 100 Fly, as junior Lucy Worrall (55.71) and freshman Hannah Weiss (56.80) finished ahead of ASU junior Marina Spadoni (56.89). The Trojan men started exhibition swims during the 100 Fly, and ASU sophomore Tadas Duskinas officially took first in 48.65.

ASU freshman diver Mara Aiacoboae scored two points (333.30) ahead of USC senior Haley Ishimatsu (331.40) for the win in the 3-meter event. On the men’s side, USC’s Collin Pollard (377.85) outscored Sun Devil freshman Heikki Makikallio (335.70) for the win,

USC’s Jasmine Tosky won her second event of the meet with a 2:01.87 in the 200 IM, almost four seconds ahead of the rest of the field. ASU sophomore Cheyenne Degraff followed up for second (2:05.85), and USC’s Brianna Weinstein touched third in 2:08.57. Senior Trojan Cary Wright finished in 1:51.53 in his exhibition swim for the fastest time in the 200 IM, but ASU’s Zac Dalby officially finished first in 1:53.27.

To finish off the meet, ASU ended with a win in both the women’s (1:33.82) and men’s (1:22.16) 200 Free Relay.
