Ten open water swimmers have been selected to represent Team USA at the 2017 FINA World Championships this summer, USA Swimming announced today.

The roster includes two-time Olympian Haley Anderson (Granite Bay, Calif./Trojan Swim Club) and 2016 Olympian Jordan Wilimovsky (Malibu, Calif./Team Santa Monica), who became the first American to qualify for the same Olympic Games in both an open water and pool event. 2012 Olympian Andrew Gemmell (Wilmington, Del./Nation’s Capital Swim Club) is also on the team.

The 2015 FINA World Championships showed success for Team USA on the podium, as Wilimovsky took home gold in the men’s 10-kilometer event. Anderson won her second-straight women’s 5K world title, and the United States finished atop the team standings.

Ashley Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y./North Carolina Aquatic Club), Becca Mann (Homer Glenn, Ill./Trojan Swim Club), Chip Peterson (Pine Knoll Shores, N.C/North Carolina Aquatic Club) and David Heron (Mission Viejo, Calif./University of Tennessee) are also returnees on the world championships’ roster. A world champion in the 2005 10K, Peterson is on the worlds roster for the first time since 2010.

Cathryn Salladin (Yorba Linda, Calif./FAST Swim Team), Brendan Casey (Santa Monica, Calif./Unattached) and Simon Lamar (Sonora, Calif./FAST Swim Team) are newcomers to the world-class event.

The team was selected based on the results of last month’s USA Swimming Open Water National Championships held at Castaic Lake, California.

Anderson and Twichell will compete alongside each other in both the women’s 5K and 10K events, while Mann and Salladin will race the women’s 25K. On the men’s side, Gemmell and Heron are in the 5K, Wilimovsky and Casey are entered in the 10K, while Lamar and Peterson take on the 25K.

The 2017 FINA World Championships at open water swimming events will be contested July 15-16 and July 18-21 at Lake Balaton outside Budapest.

The team will be led by head coach Dave Kelsheimer of Team Santa Monica and assisted by Rich DeSelm of the North Carolina Aquatic Club.
