USA Men Fall To Serbia 20-11 In Opening Match Of Volvo Cup

The USA Men’s Senior National Team opened play at the Volvo Cup with a 20-11 loss to Serbia earlier today. Alex Bowen (Santee, CA/Stanford/Stanford) and Bret Bonanni (Huntington Beach, CA/Stanford/Stanford) scored three goals each in the loss while McQuin Baron (North Tustin, CA/Mater Dei HS/United) andDrew Holland (Orinda, CA/Stanford/Lamorinda) split time in net recording nine saves. Serbia was in control throughout the match building a 5-2 lead after the first period and a 9-4 lead at halftime. Serbia continued the offensive surge in the third scoring six more goals to take a 15-7 advantage. They closed out the match with five more goals in the fourth on the way to the victory.

Team USA went 2/6 on power plays while Serbia was 6/8. Other goal scorers for the United States included Michael Rosenthal (Miami, FL/USC/NYAC), Dan Matulis (Milford, OH/Long Beach State/Rockford Aquatics), Alex Obert (Stockton, CA/Pacific/Sac Polo), Nolan McConnell(Laguna Beach, CA/Long Beach State/SET), and John Mann (Newport Beach, CA/California/NYAC).
