The Wyckoff YMCA’s Sam Kaufmann has committed to the University of Delaware after a recent recruiting visit. Kaufmann is the third member of her family to swim in college. Her brother, Matt, graduated in 2012 from The College of New Jersey, while her sister Sarah swam at Ramapo College. Kauffman has been plagued by injuries throughout her high school career that have limited her progression, but she’s coming off a strong summer:

  • 50 freestyle- 25.27
  • 100 freestyle- 55.01
  • 200 freestyle- 2:03.88
  • 50 free LCM- 28.46
  • 100 free LCM- 1:00.77

Her long course times, particularly her 100 freestyle, suggests she is due for some big improvement this fall. Kauffman swam for Wayne Hills High School was a Passaic County Champion in the 50 freestyle last year.

Kauffman is far from scoring times in her primary races, 16th place in the CAA conference last year went 23.85 in the 50 while it took 51.55 in the 100. However, if she can stay healthy it’s possible that she could be late bloomer for the Blue Hens who finished 4th in 2015.
