With her team down 28 after two days of competition Hellen Moffitt guided the lady Tar Heels to a dominant preliminary session on day three. Moffitt qualified second in both the 100 butterfly at 51.98 as well as in the 100 backstroke at 52.16, both new UNC records. North Carolina has 8 up 8 mid and 2 down going into tonight’s session.
Virginia will have their work cut out for them as the Cavaliers return 7 up 5 mid and 4 down for the evenings chess match with the rival Tar Heels. Leah Smith (200 Free) and Bartholomew(100 Back) look to hold their top spot from the morning to help minimalize the effort of UNC. Louisville was also clicking on all cylinders this morning with Kelsi Worrell posting the fastest time in the country at 50.38 in the 100 Butterfly breaking the ACC Meet and her own conference record in the process. We’ll keep you posted on SwimSwamLive as Worrell attempts to be the first woman in history under the 50 seconds.
Teammate Tanja Kyllianinen also qualified first in the 400IM (4:09.29), but will have her hands full with Emma Nunn of UNC and Kaitlyn Jones of UVA all vying to break the ACC Meet Record. Emma Reaney (58.87) will look to defend her 100 Breaststroke conference title and potentially break her conference record of last year. Action kicks off tonight at 6 Eastern Time with the 400 individual medley. The night ends with the 400 Medley Relay, should be a tight race between UVA-Lousiville-UNC-VT- and FSU all eyeing a spot on the podium.

But UNC used up one more of their total available swims today than UVA did (Bestor in 2 events), and with 4 divers versus UVA’s 2 divers, they have 3 less overall swims; so UVA will have more swims tomorrow, so unless UNC grabs a lead of at least 10-15 today, UVA still projects to win by 50+ points.
