UMBC Men, Liberty University Women on Top After Day Two of CCSA Championships

After a troubling eighth place finish on Wednesday night, five-time defending CCSA women’s champion Florida Gulf Coast University made a thrilling comeback on day two to come within 26 points of leader Liberty University.

To start off the night, Elise Lankiewicz of Davidson took home top honors in a tight 500 free final in 4:48.65, followed by Liberty’s Heather McCorkel at 4:48.87 and FGCU’s Lani Cabrera with a 4:49.88.

In the 200 IM, Liberty’s Emilie Kaufman would take the top spot in the 200 IM with 2:00.40.  Campbell University’s Kylie Warne took second in 2:01.70 followed by FGCU’s Samantha Rahael in 2:03.84.

Florida Gulf Coast’s Emma Svensson took home the CCSA crown in the 50 free with a 22.61, with Incarnate Word’s Lana Nguyen at 22.95 and Liberty’s Jess Reinhardt coming in at 23.01.

In the 200 free relay, FGCU finished first with a 1:30.24.  Liberty finished second in 1:30.94 followed by Davidson in 1:33.01

On the men’s side, Davidson’s Dylan Ludwick took home the CCSA crown and a new conference record in 4:23.19. Incarnate Word’s Connor Hennessy took second in 4:24.32 followed by UMBC’s Robert Breen in 4:27.28.

UMBC’s Mohamed Hussein won the men’s 200 IM in 1:44.50, a new CCSA record.  Incarnate Word’s Silva Evandro and David Moore took second and third in 1:44.92 and 1:47.08, respectively.

In the men’s 50 free, Incarnate Word’s Alex Brouwer touched first in a new meet record of 20.16. Gregor Spoerlei of UMBC finished in second at 20.29. Spoerlei’s teammate Lauri Kaei took third in 20.52.

The men’s 200 free relay crown was taken by Incarnate Word in a new CCSA record time of 1:19.59. UMBC would take second in 1:20.57 and Gardner-Webb took third in 1:21.24.
