UF’s Warner Finishes 25th at USA Diving National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS — University of Florida diver Kahlia Warner finished 25th overall in the women’s Individual 3-Meter Springboard competition on Friday afternoon at the 2015 USA Diving Winter National Championships held inside the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Warner, a Queensland, Australia, native, posted a five-dive score of 231.20 in the preliminary session to gather the 25th-place showing.

The 2015 All-American opened the prelims with a Back 2 1/2 Somersault Pike which registered 52.50 points. Warner added a Forward 3 1/2 Somersault Tuck (39.20), a Reverse 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck (37.80), and a Forward 2 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Pike (45.00) before completing the set on an Inward 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck which brought in 56.70 points — her top dive from the afternoon.

The Orange and Blue will be back in action on Saturday, January 2, when the Gators play host to the in-state rivaling Florida State Seminoles inside the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Fla.

Head Diving Coach Dale Schultz on the day:
“Kahlia along with the rest of the divers at the collegiate level struggled today.

“The judging was at a high level and Kahlia was penalized on a few dives for coming out from the board too far. It’s something we’ve been working to improve, but we haven’t quite gotten it where it needs to be from a competition standpoint.

“We’ve been in a demanding training regimen for some time now and this break over the holidays couldn’t have come at a better time. Our divers will have a few days to relax and wind down before we pick back up and prepare for the rest of the season.”
