UCLA On A Roll – Nabs Another Top Swimmer from PASA with Carly Reid

Carly Reid, one of California’s top sprinters, has given her verbal commitment to Cyndi Gallagher’s UCLA Bruins for the 2014-15 season.

Reid attends the competitive Monta Vista High School in Cupertino where she was an integral part of the CCS (California’s Central Coast Section) championship team. She scored big points for the Matadors with her fourth place finish in the 50 free, second in the 100 free, and 22.98/49.93 anchor legs on the 200/400 free relays, both of which won gold.

Reid swims for the PASA-SCRA branch on the Stanford campus under coach Scott Shea. Her 50/100 free times will be a nice addition to the Bruins’ squad. She goes 23.14/50.43 and has been 1:51 SCY/2:07 LCM in the 200. In addition her 200 IM (2:09/2:27) should be an asset.

“I chose UCLA because of the beautiful campus, the strong academics, and the amazing team. Of all the teams I visited I felt most at home at UCLA. Everyone is supportive, they work hard and they enjoy being together. I think Cyndi is a great coach and I believe UCLA will help me continue to develop as an athlete. I can’t wait to be a Bruin!”

The UCLA freshman class should feel comfortably familiar as she joins current and PASA teammates MP Delisle and Sarah Kaunitz. (See photo above.) Reid and Kaunitz are also teammates at Monta Vista High School.

Reid competed at Canadian Olympic Trials in Montreal in 2012. Her father, Cam Reid, is a former Canadian Olympic Team member who swam at Arizona State University. He set the ASU record in the 400 IM in 1983 and held it until 2006; his time is still among the all-time top ten today. Both he and Carly’s mother, Lesley Chequer Reid, are active masters swimmers.

UCLA had one swim meet when the last coaches poll was put out…. You are either bitter or uninformed.
