Two Kansas high school swimmers will face battery charges for incidents that allegedly occurred on the Great Bend High School’s swim team bus in February.
The Ellsworth County Attorney announced last week that he would be charging two students, both juveniles, with batterfy charges, per KAKE.com.
The incident is one of two alleged occurrences of battery on Great Bend High School swim team bus trips in the month of February. The original allegations (which we covered here) included sexual assault, but the Ellsworth County Sheriff announced last month that after his office’s investigation, only battery charges would be filed.
The Great Bend Schools district (USD 428) also released a statement last week, saying that their own investigation matched the Ellsworth County Attorney’s statement that battery was the only charge in the incident. The USD 428 statement, per KAKE:
“The announcement by the Ellsworth County Attorney yesterday in regard to the alleged misconduct by students on a Great Bend High School activity bus on Feb. 6 is consistent with the findings of the GBHS administration on Feb. 8 and the corrective action taken by them at that time.
USD 428 remains hopeful that the legal process will provide a quick and fair resolution for all the parties involved.”
