18-year-old twins Jude Williams and Liberty Williams swept distance freestyle races on opening night of the Carlsbad Sectional. Both compete for Riverside Aquatics Association.

Liberty, a high school senior and Louisville commit, went 9:47.15 to dominate the women’s 1000 free by more than thirteen seconds. That’s a drop of about a second from Williams previous best, which was set at this very meet last year. For the 2019-2020 season, Williams ranks #8 among under-18 competitors in this event.

Jude, meanwhile, is a senior and will attend Wisconsin next year. He was 15:07.73 to win the men’s 1650, cutting four seconds from his best. That’s also his first time drop in the mile in more than a year, with his previous best coming at 2018 Winter Juniors.

Behind him, 16-year-old Matthew Chai from FAST went 15:21.99 for second. That’s a drop of five and a half seconds and moves Chai within three tenths of cracking the top 100 all-time in the 15-16 age group.

The meet continues through Sunday, with the Williams twins set to swim a full slate of events. Liberty is entered in the 100 fly, 500 free, 200 free, 100 free and 1650 free, while Jude is entered into the 500 free, 200 free, 50 free, 100 free and 1000 free.
