The Tulane women’s swimming & diving team picked up its third dual victory of the season on Saturday, defeating West Florida 153-88 at the UWF Aquatic Center.

The Green Wave (3-1) won 10 of the 13 events on the day including both relay events to begin and end the meet.

“The team did well today to bring home the win,” Coach Katie Robinson said. “We are in a tough training part of our season gaining strength and endurance. It was good to see these women fight through being terribly sore and fatigued.”

The afternoon began with Tulane claiming the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.40. The quartet of Paris ZhangLena HayakawaGabby Vieira and Courtney Barker got the Green Wave the win. The Green Wave swept the top three places in the rest as the B team of Shelly ZelnickKate McDonaldAlex Brindisi and Jeni Griffin came in second (1:47.72) while the C team of Claire GolbaOlivia JohnsonJordan Morling and Jessica Weitz took third (1:50.63).

Zhang then won the second event of the meet for the Green Wave, claiming the 200 free with a time of 1:52.73. Zelnick was Tulane’s third winner as she took the 200 IM title in 2:07.90. Vieira followed that with a win in the 100 fly with a time of 58.75 seconds.

Vieira’s 100 fly win started a streak of seven consecutive event victories for the Wave to close out the meet. Barker took first in the 100 free after that, touching the wall in 52.50 seconds. Golba was the winner in the 100 back with a time of 59.09, and Johnson took first in the 500 free with a time of 4:59.24.

Diver Anise Muir then won the 1-meter springboard, taking her first victory of the season with a score of 216.00.

Johnson won the final individual race of the afternoon, taking the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.53 and setting the new ninth-fastest time in program history.

And to end the night, the 400 free relay team of Inger-Ane Schefte, Barker, Lilly Morgan and McDonald swam to a first-place finish in 3:34.13.

“There are a few more skills we want to hone in on this coming week in preparation of next weekend’s competitions,” Robinson said. “We will happily take the win today and get back to work on Monday.”

The Green Wave return to the Reily Center Natatorium next weekend, hosting their Dual-a-Pool-Ooza. That meet will feature Denver, FIU and Rice visiting New Orleans for a series of six dual meets.
