The University of Notre Dame’s class of 2020 has expanded by one more, as Lauren Heller of Shaker Heights, Ohio, has given the Fighting Irish her verbal commitment.

“I am so excited and honored to become part of the Notre Dame family.  It is a special place where I know that I will grow in my academics, athletics, and faith.  I can’t wait to join the team in their success and represent the Irish!”

The Hawken High School senior placed second in the 200 free (1:48.57) and fourth in the 100 free (50.97) at the 2015 Ohio State Division II Swimming and Diving Championships; she also swam fly on the Hawken medley relay and led off the 200 free relay. Representing Lake Erie Silver Dolphins at Summer Juniors in San Antonio, Heller punched her ticket to 2016 Olympic Trials in the 50 free with a stunning 26.05 in the swimoff for 25th place, and again in the 100 free with a 56.39 in prelims. Heller wound up seventh in the 100 and 12th in the 200 at Juniors. Her top times include:

  SCY LCM
50 free 23.18 26.05
100 free 49.95 56.39
200 free 1:47.82 2:02.46
200 IM 2:03.38 2:22.86
100 fly 56.03 1:03.97

Heller’s best 200 free time would have scored in the “B” final at 2015 ACC Championships. Her 100 free would have put her in the “C” final along with Notre Dame’s top scorer in the event, Catherine Mulquin, who will be a senior when Heller first appears in South Bend. Heller will join a class that also includes early commits:

Congratulations Lauren, Alana, Debby, and I are very proud of you. Our good friend Shaun Crawford is a freshman on the football team. Also, we know Katie Miller (Firestone). We will be here for support!
