Towson Tigers Swimming Seek Best Record Since 2006-07

Towson University  Men’s Swimming Team

The Towson University men’s swimming team seeks its fourth win of the season on Saturday as it hosts the Old Dominion Monarchs for a meet at Burdick Pool beginning at 1 p.m.

With a win over the Monarchs, the Tigers would have their most wins in a season (four) since 2006-07, when the team posted a 6-5 record. 
“We had a good meet last weekend and if we can be great this Saturday, we will be competitive with Old Dominion,” Towson Head Coach Pat Mead said. “I’m looking for some fast swims from all of our men. We will need some breakout performances to win.”
Last weekend, the Tigers split with Georgetown and William & Mary on the road in Washington, D.C. 
Junior Matt Lowe was named Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Swimmer of the Week for the first time in his career on Wednesday after winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:39.62. Lowe also won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:53.98.
Freshmen Nick BreschiBrandon Ress and Jeremy Liu were strong for the Tigers. Breschi was second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.76 and second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.30.
Ress won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:41.77, while Liu won the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.78.

Towson University  Women’s Swimming Team

After a pair of road victories at Georgetown and against William & Mary last weekend, the Towson University women’s swimming and diving team hosts Old Dominion Saturday for a meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Burdick Pool.

With a win over the Monarchs, the Tigers would improve to 5-0 for the sixth consecutive season, dating back to 2008-09. 
“We always swim and dive well at home, so I anticipate some new faces in new events,” Towson Head Coach Pat Mead said. “Old Dominion is a strong team that we have to take seriously if we want to win.”
Last weekend, Towson earned victories on the road over Georgetown and William & Mary.
Senior Kaitlin Burke won three events, including the 200-yard freestyle (time of 1:51.50), the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.85) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:06.30) to lead the way for the Tigers.
Burke earned her second Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Swimmer of the Week award of the seasonon Wednesday.
Sophomore Charlotte Holz contributed by the 100-yard backstroke in 57.93 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:06.62.
