Towson Tigers Receive Verbal from NAAC Freestyler Rachel Hoban

Naval Academy Aquatic Club’s Rachel Hoban has given her verbal commitment to the Towson Tigers for next fall.

Hoban’s Top Times

  • 200 free – 1:56.30
  • 500 free – 5:06.66
  • 1000 free – 10:38.13
  • 1650 free – 17:56.29
  • 400 IM – 4:47.72

Hoban would best be utilized as a distance freestyler– she would’ve been Towson’s 6th fastest 1000 freestyler last season. She’s also had consistent time drops from year to year, including a 2+ second drop in the 500 free and a .70 drop in the 200 free from 2014 to 2015.

Towson graduated their #1 1000 freestyler Elizabeth Saint last year, and top-end distance specialists Christine Hammond and Hannah Snyder will have graduated before Hoban gets to campus.

Hoban isn’t yet ready to score at the CAA Championships, where Towson is the reigning champion. Still, she is a range-y freestyle talent who will add depth to a program that won their conference meet last year by a commanding 80 points over James Madison.

“I have decided to commit to Towson University because of the team’s immense amount of positive energy, unity, and constant strive to accomplish bigger and better things. I loved how they had a great program for my major of international business and all of the facilities on campus blew me away. Before I went on my recruiting trip there, everyone told me to pick the school that I felt ‘the most at home at’; that’s the biggest reason I picked Towson.”

Joining Hoban in Towson’s class of 2020 is North Carolina breaststroker Jacki Schoening of the Marlins of Raleigh.
