The 2019-2020 season is not just a year of new coaches for the Alabama Crimson Tide. The team has also unveiled its new-look aquatic center that underwent a $21 million “renewal and renovation” over the last year.

For the project, the indoor 25 yard pool was converted to an outdoor 25 yard by 25 meter pool that’s deep enough for springboard diving, new diving platforms in the indoor pool, an athletic training room as well as expanded deck space, sectional glass roll-up doors along the west side of the building, new pool deck surface, ceiling, lighting and spectator seating.

The renovation also included a new team suite that houses locker rooms for both teams as well as a nutrition station, team meeting room, a team lounge and coaches’ offices and conference room.

The video below offers a look at the new outdoor pool and the team’s new locker room facility.

The Crimson Tide kicked off their season last week with a dual meet win over Division II Delta State. Their next meet is an October 4th dual against Georgia in Birmingham; Alabama isn’t actually scheduled to host a meet for the entire 2019-2020 season.

This headline is a bit misleading. $21MM for an outdoor short course pool and some locker rooms seemed ridiculously overpriced to me. I believe this is a secondary training pool built as phase two of three of the renovation of the Bama aquatics center. The locker rooms and lounge were also completed as part of this phase of renovation. Judging by the various press release out there, the main competition indoor 50 meter pool appears to be still under renovation and is set to… Read more »

That’s correct. This pool is behind the 50m pool, which will be under construction until late October. The team is all practicing in this pool at staggering times until the indoor pool is finished.

I wonder if some of their early-season meets in the coming years might be outdoors.

Pretty cool. Let’s just hope Shane Tusup and/or Sun Yang do not visit the facility. They would destroy it

When you can’t pay the athletes, all that Bama money has to go somewhere. Glad to see the swim program reaping some benefits.

Surprised they didn’t add a wave machine to the outdoor pool. With a couple of gallons of food coloring they can then really ROLL TIDE. Someone call Saban and get this done.

Sleep pods are in the sports science facility— don’t worry, Bama has you covered
